Introduction

El Salvador suffered a civil war that lasted more than 20 years, this event changed the history and future of the smallest country in Central America.

During this tour you will learn about the 1930’s indigenious genocide, a 50+ year’s of militar dictatorship, social and political situation of El Salvador in the 60’s, how the Guerrilla was created, how the US  supported the Salvadoran govermentat during that time, what happened in 1989 and how the goverment and the guerrilla signed the peace in 1992.

You are going to be taken to different locations on north east El Salvador to learn from the local communities how the war happened and how it affected their life.

About Perquin, Morazan

Located 206 kms. from San Salva­dor. It is at 1,230 AMSL, which is characteristic of a fresh weather, with many pine trees, surrounded by coffee plantations. During the conflict, it was called the “Gue­rrilla Capital”, being seat for the Peace Agreement signing in El Salvador. The municipality has hotels, restaurants and spaces for extreme adventure and getting to know the history of the muni­cipality.

Perquín, whose name in the Potón language means “Way of burning coals”, is a scenic delight that offers visitors perimeters for walking and biking in natural settings, such as the Bailadero del Diablo area and the El Perol waterfall, which can be seen between 2 to 10 km away. The different levels of difficulty of the terrain and the breathtaking landscapes for taking pictures, make this a unique destination to explore.

Another site that cannot be missed in the area is the Museum of the Salvadoran Revolution, which tells the story of the time of the armed conflict through photographs, narratives, vestiges of weapons and vehicles used during combat; an interesting journey through the past that will make you reflect on the present.
