Stunning Cerro Verde hotel reopens after 24 years – Izalco volcano

The Salvadoran government announced the reactivation of the operations of the Cerro Verde Mountain Hotel, which will be run by Casa 1800 El Salvador, a 100% Salvadoran company, becoming a source of employment, investment and reactivation of tourism in the western part of the country.

The hotel will begin operations in October 2021 with food and accommodation services, generating more than 100 direct and indirect jobs, 95% of which are local.

The Cerro Verde hotel is located in the center of the well known Cerro Verde National Park, 1.5 hours away from San Salvador City.

How to get to Cerro Verde hotel?

If you are coming from San Salvador we suggest you take the Monsenor Romero/RN-29 road, exit on the Cerretera Panamericana / Carretera Los Chorros. Then take the Sonsonate exit, you will pass Ateos and Armenia towns, exit on the Cerro Verde Texaco gas station, drive trough the beautiful road for about 20 minutes until you find the desvio Cerro Verde road, make a left and drive up until you get to the hotel.

Tourism authorities hope that the area where the Cerro Verde National Park is located, which is visited annually by more than 100,000 tourists, will be invigorated with this new attraction.

The Ministry of Tourism, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, worked on a viability plan that allowed activating this tourist icon that had been under construction for more than 4 years and generating maintenance expenses.

“After hard work, we have managed to grant this property to a Salvadoran company that will generate local employment and increase the influx of visitors to the destination ”, explained the Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez.

When will the Cerro Verde hotel reopen again?

The authorities officially signed the contract with the company Casa 1800, which will operate the property for five years, which will continue to be the property of the State.
